Product

Voltage Monitoring Relay- SM 500

Application

Motor & Pump protection application

The Problem / Task

A pump is the heart of most irrigation systems and if not maintained can use much more power than required leading to excess pumping costs and wasting electricity. Line voltages issues are very common in irrigation applications, which ultimately can result in Motor & Pump failure.

In such applications, it is required to monitor Phase loss/Phase unbalance, Phase sequence, Under-voltage, Over-voltage, Neutral loss in order to prevent Motor & Pump from permanent damage.

The Solution

SM 500 series from GIC is used to monitor under/over voltage condition of the supply side of the motor. The relay trip condition is based on the selectable range of Under/Over voltage settings. The phase loss, phase unbalance, phase sequence and neutral loss are effectively sensed and relay is tripped in order to protect Motor & Pump. All trip conditions are effectively indicated on the device. SM 500 relays also have adjustable time delay setting. Various selectable ON delay and OFF delay timings in different models makes SM 500 series suitable for several applications. The function of trip setting is helpful for adjusting the specific delay based on customer requirement. On delay and OFF delay helps in avoiding nuisance tripping. ultimately this helps in preventing motor & pump from permanent damage.

Benefits

  • Protect against phase Loss, Phase reversal and phase asymmetry.
  • Can be configured for 3 phase, 4 wire or single-phase system, this makes it more versatile for use.
  • Simple monitoring through LED indication for power and fault conditions.
  • Same product can be used for various kind of loads as it has selectable over and under voltage trip level.

Why GIC

The Result

  • Effectively protect the motor & pump from burnout.
  • Minimizing damage to the load connected to the motor.
  • Extended operational life expectancy of the irrigation system.
  • A highly competitive performance/cost ratio.
