Product

PTC Thermistor Relay, PD 225

Application

High torque motor control application

The Problem / Task

In high torque motors overheating is the most common issue. Overheating is usually because of many reasons as electrical overload, low resistance, contamination, start stop frequency and vibration. It is required to monitor over loading and excessive heating of motor winding to prevent motor from permanent damage.

The Solution

A PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) sensor is a thermally sensitive resistor whose resistance increases proportionately with temperature. PTC thermistor motor protection relays monitor the winding temperature of motors. PTC sensors integrated in the motor windings directly measure the motor heat. This direct temperature measurement enables the thermistor motor protection relays to evaluate various motor conditions such as overheating, overload and insufficient cooling. So, any undesirable deviation in motor winding temperature can be accurately sensed and relay is tripped in order to protect motor. The trip conditions and sensor open/short conditions are effectively indicated on the device. The PTC thermistor relay with wide AC/DC voltage range can be used for several applications.

Benefits

  • Protection against Overheating of motor due to Heavy Duty Load, High switching frequency, High operating temperature & Insufficient cooling condition.
  • Protect against phase Loss, Phase reversal and phase asymmetry.
  • Can be configured for 3 phase, 4 wire or single-phase system, this makes it more versatile for use.
  • Simple monitoring through LED indication for Healthy, Unhealthy, Sensor Open/Short conditions.
  • Auto, Manual, Remote reset option makes it more user friendly.
