Irrigation Pump Control Using GSM Controller


Task

In the agricultural sector, the fields are relatively far from the river bank. It is required to automatically control and monitor the water pumps that are used for watering the agricultural fields from a remote location.

Solution

Our GSM controller offers an ideal solution to remotely monitor & control the ON/OFF switching of various electrical loads using mobile handsets. Primarily it is used by farmers to switch ON and OFF pump sets from a remote location which enables them to handle their irrigation pump sets efficiently.

This is done by a number of missed rings or sending SMS from a master mobile handset to the GSM controller installed along with the pump starter panel. We have also incorporated IVRS (Interactive voice response system) for real-time monitoring and ease of control.

There is a facility to configure the single master and two monitor numbers; the master number can control & monitor the system while monitor numbers can only monitor the status of the system.
Regular status updates in the form of SMS for ON/OFF status of load, Power failure, Power recovery, Phase error, Error recovery, Phase fail, Contactor pick-up fault and SIM balance ensures proper communication of the site & load condition to the farmers/users.
This results in saving time, efforts, electricity, water and wear & tear of the pump sets/load.

Irrigation Pump Control Using Current Monitoring Relay CMR


Task

In irrigation pumping system it is required to monitor over current & under current i.e. over load and under load conditions (also known as dry running) for preventing the machinery from permanent damage.

Solution

Current Monitoring Relays from GIC are equipped with built-in current transformers to measure the load current. Any undesirable deviation in the load current is accurately sensed and the relay is tripped which protects the pump from permanent damage. The trip delay is settable which depends on the inverse current characteristics decided by the motor class (10A,20,30,40) or definite trip time that can be set with the knob. The trip conditions are effectively indicated on the display of the device. Current Monitoring relay will switch to operation mode i.e. actuate the relay as soon as the load conditions are healthy. Our current monitoring relay also offers protection from phase loss, phase reversal & phase unbalance faults there by providing integral preventive solution to the pumping Machinery.

High Torque Motor Control Using PTC Thermister Relay PD 225


Task

In high torque motor application, it is required to monitor over loading and excessive heating of motor winding to prevent motor from permanent damage.

Solution

A PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) sensor is a thermally sensitive resistor whose resistance increases proportionately with temperature. The PTC Thermistor Relay PD 225 from GIC can protect motors with integrated PTC resistor sensors. Any undesirable deviation in motor winding temperature due to heavy duty load or insufficient cooling condition can be accurately sensed and relay is tripped in order to protect motor. The trip conditions and sensor open/short conditions are effectively indicated on the display of the device. The PTC thermistor relay with wide AC/DC voltage range can be used for several applications.

Single Phasing Protection of Motors/Pumps Using SM 500


Task

In irrigation pumping application it is required to monitor Phase loss/Phase unbalance, Phase sequence, Under-voltage, Over-voltage, Neutral loss in order to prevent motors and pumps from permanent damage.

Solution

SM 500 series from GIC is used to monitor under voltage and over voltage condition of the supply side of the motor. The relay trip condition is based on the selectable range of Under/Over voltage settings. The function of trip setting is helpful for adjusting the specific delay based on customer requirement. The phase loss, phase unbalance, phase sequence and neutral loss are effectively sensed and relay is tripped in order to protect motors and pumps. All trip conditions are effectively indicated on the device. Various selectable ON delay and OFF delay timings in different models makes SM 500 series suitable for several applications.
